Knew it^^
(fucking page brake. Was talking about Doof liking John Grant)
also probably to "leftfieldy" for your taste Boney, so I think that's a good decision^^.

@Boney she's stopped doing so much artsy synthpop on this record and transitioned towards folk, if that's more appealing?

Pop is supposed to be simple music, if I have to turn on my brain to enjoy it there's a problem.

Please tell me you're being sarcastic Boney :/
Simple pop and artsy pop can both be frickin' amazing

In my experience most art pop tries waaaaaaaaaay too hard and ends up being annoying.

Tbh I can agree for some acts (Bjork) but definitely not Susanne.

Not a genre label I refer to much, 'art pop', 'brainy pop'...
Is Lorde art pop? I think she might have switched off my brain when I tried listening to her new one. Outsmarted by a friggin' twelve year old.

Hang on, are we all on the same page?
Maybe there's some sort of definition for the "art pop" label that's going over my head, I'm just referring to music which can be chiefly considered pop but goes the extra mile in the songwriting/sonic department (which then might not necessarily be explicitly trying to come across as "artsy," so that might not have been the best choice of words on my part).
Infected and Purple Rain I think are examples of top-tier pop albums that are more artistic in spirit than many people might instinctively think when they hear the word "pop"

art pop was always a run-on genre made for marketing shite to people who thought they were too in-the-know to buy shite.. I think Lorde is the biggest success story of that seamy old hoax..

I think we're not on the same page and I actually think the "classic" definition of art pop is closer to what Boney was thinking of.
Top 5 albums on RYM when you search for Art pop are by Bjork and Kate Bush, other artists in the top 40 are Scott Walker, (late) Talk Talk, Arthur Russel, Sigur Ros and Julia Holter. None of these artists (except maybe maybe some Kate Bush stuff) are making radio friendly music.
(Although The The and Gorillaz are also included, so maybe the whole Art-Pop labe is a bit ill-defined)
lol butcherboy spoken like a true ignoramus.

Talking Heads, Radiohead and Everything Everything get the label a lot too...I think it just means 'it's not rock, not really indie either, it's closer to pop...but it's not as mainstream as 'regular' pop'
It's a bit of a nonsense but I sort of understand why it gets used

Radiohead get the art rock (a term that I'm slightly more ok with) tag way more than art pop Doof. People are calling this album art rock for Chrissake

Oh yeah, there's 'art rock' too.
I try not to use that one either.

She supposed to have the exact same intonations as Lana del White Musk?
Also, might be Boney's thing...a lot of pedal steel on track 2

Art rock is a good label I've found, especially for new music, since indie rock and alt. rock have pretty much lost any meaning in terms of describing the music, having more to do with time periods and where the band was founded.
Also describing Pink Floyd as art rock is pretty widely accepted I've found, since they aren't really progressive rock in the way that Yes, King Crimson, Rush, Genesis, Jethro Tull, and Camel were.

Finished 'Mountaineers'...it's kinda amazing...and sadly amazingly not my thing on first impressions
It might make more sense with a whole album of build up. I'll keep working through the album now.
On the second song on the album she did sound a bit like Lana to me, but now doesn't so much on track 3 (or at all on 'Mountaineers').
