"God is dead, well said... Get out of my head".
That song will be legendary, it's one of the best things I've heard in a long time. The subtle background guitar parts kill me.

In the meanwhile, 'In The Water' sounds brilliant live as expected:

I think this will end up being my AOTY, the stronger moments just get even stronger with each listen. if I didn't have such a history with my other top songs by this band I'd say 451 is my favorite track by them.

whether this or Go Farther In Lightness ends up as my AOTY will tell you a lot about how I responded to this year
but right now my top 5 is Science Fiction > GFIL > A Black Mile to the Surface > Tremendous Sea of Love > After the Party

Project, your top 5 is amazingly similar to mine.
Science Fiction > Go Farther In Light > Black Mile > Melodrama > Crack-Up

we have pretty similar tastes generally Sowing =)
I gave Fleet Foxes a listen but it did nothing for me, I probably owe them a revisit. Liked the Lorde album a good bit but not quite enough for a top 5 slot.

So, now that I'm getting to know Brand New's back catalogue a little more (since this album took my virginity), I can safely say this is still my favorite album by them.

I'm jealous of anyone who hasn't heard their previous catalog yet. You can use this as a guide to the first half of their discog if you'd like (shameless blog plug):

But honestly I can see why someone who heard this first still thinks it is their best. It sort of plays samples of all their strongest hands, so there's less to be gained in backtracking.

" I can safely say this is still my favorite album by them."
I can see why someone would think that, but TDAG just hits such a particular emotional note for me. It was massive for the genre and a lot of people's musical tastes as a whole (particularly a lot of people on this site).
it also depends on what stage of life you're in, I think -- TDAG is much more angsty (in the best possible way) and I think Science Fiction is higher on the existential dread scale. Two very different kinds of "sad."

Ive been riding those welcoming waves of existential dread for years. Hell, its practically a vital nutrient for me at this point, so this one definitely resonates with me on levels that TDAG and Daisy do not. That said, Im kicking myself for knowing about this band for damn near a decade and never bothering with them until very recently because TDAG definitely still rattled me on a lot of levels and I realllllly enjoyed it.

Lit Me Up is crazy good and not how I would have expected this album to start. They're so unpredictable now it's amazing.
Fuck the lyrics are so good too.
