If you go back through this thread you'd see my comments saying I didn't really dig this, but it always felt like it was really good. I'm still getting into DM, though, which is why I felt like I needed to spend more time with it.

I get your point...im like i'd give it a cold 4 because you can see immediately this is incredible! But once i'm new to this type of music i give like a 3.5 which is great, and i'll kind of let it grow.

What other DM have you heard, or are you just new to the wonky/experimental stuff? Just curious as I'm about a 'year in'.
I still need to jam this.

I'll start with the first one, which is on my 'to check list'. If these guys make stuff that's anything like Obscura or Everything is Fire then guessing I'll dig.

me too '1 year in' ahah...i'm like grunge alternative rock, alternative metal kinda guy, and i used to like some hardcore too. Then this past this year and half i got into Mastodon discography and started to be more open all this concepts: sludge metal (AmenRa; Neurosis), death metal (started with Gojira, then Meshuggah and so on...) grindcore (Full of Hell, dying fetus) and black metal (Ruins Of Beverast). But i always dig more the wonky/ experimental stuff ahah but yeah i'm new to all this and there's so much to listen i sometimes get confused, and in different times i have different perceptions

Yeah this place is amazing for finding new stuff, can be overwhelming at times though.
I don't see Meshuggah as a DM band. I went for the 'classic' Death/Gorguts/Immolation route into straight-up DM. Opeth helped massively to begin with as well because they have elements of DM (growled vox/riffs) without being full-on DM. Carcass are awesome as well & cover a lot of ground through their discog.

I understand the temptation to always find current music as it's exciting... thinking these bands are doing stuff now & you can see them live etc.
It's typical & 'boring' saying my favourite DM album is Death's Symbolic (it is), but I'm very glad to have given it a chance.
