Probably the song that got me into the band after being a young Metallica fan who refused to accept the greatness of Maiden.

haha I know where you are coming from, I was like that myself.

I don't think I ever was like that, it just took me more to discover Maiden's music cuz they aren't as popular.

It was a stupid '90s thing really haha. You were either a Metallica or a Maiden fan. Same with Slayer and Sepultura even though the animosity was even worse than Maiden/Metallica.

The Metallica/Maiden dispute revolved mainly about the heaviness of the outfits, in terms of guitars, Maiden had more ties to old school hard rock, whereas Metallica to punk and Motorhead.

Oh, I see. What about Metallica and Megadeth?

As far as I can remember, there was no rivalry about Mustaine and Metallica. Most fans back then weren't even aware that Mustaine was founding member of Metallica.

^Ths. Plus Megadeth weren't even considered as being on the same league as Metallica so there wasn't a feud iirc.

'a young Metallica fan who refused to accept the greatness of Maiden.'
i was the opposite manosg!
'As far as I can remember, there was no rivalry about Mustaine and Metallica. Most fans back then weren't even aware that Mustaine was founding member of Metallica.'
There was always a rivalry between Megadeth and Metallica....in Dave's mind at least. As fans, we always knew about it but not to the degree that we know today, thanks to the internet, social media, etc... Metallica was always the far superior band in terms of success, but this young fella was always on the Megadeth camp side.

tbh I first heard Maiden when I was 4 because Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 was my shit
remember having had a few specific songs I liked more than the rest from that soundtrack, Number of the Beast, Blackball and Bad Dreams I think were the ones I had picked out
turns out whaddaya know now that I'm an adult I look back and am a fan of both Maiden and Offspring
Seventh Son of a Seventh Son is probably my favorite Maiden but god damn if both this and Dance of Death aren't really close
I seriously think people find Dance of Death one of their weaker albums because of the artwork being incredibly turn of the millennium CG, like Face in the Sand and Rainmaker might both be in my top 5 Maiden songs

Nice. Paschendale and the t/t are my favorites from DoD but yeah I'm one of those who consider it one of the weak Maiden albums. Still Maiden though so it's a solid 3.5 for me.

Agreed on DOD's album art detracting from the quality of the music. Album is criminally underrated. The t/t, paschendale, and no more lies are my top 3, and they go harder than most of the material that came after them.

I have DoD at a 4.5, I honestly think it can compete with their 80s stuff and I was once convinced it was one of their best (and still sort of do). It clicked with me pretty well, and I see some people say the same about BNW and AMOLAD

fun fact, Face in the Sand is the only Maiden track in which a double bass pedal is used
