who cares about the production? unless it's being intentionally used as another 'instrument' in the sound, it shouldn't affect an album's rating very much. either the songs are good or they're not. production is just a sheen, it's not what matters.

that being said, i actually don't mind the way the drums sound. or the production in general; i think it fits the kind of hardcore-ish music on the album. too bad the music on the album is utter shit

I've never much cared for metallica's riffing..or metallica's anything else for that matter. I've just never heard a metallica song that really did anything for me. Just sounds like every other 80's thrash metal band to me...

Why does everybody hate this album? I just don't get it! I've been a hardcore Metallica fan for a long time, and the way I see it, it's seems like the most of the so called "fans" can't accept the fact that Metallica wants to change their music. Load and ReLoad are two other examples of great albums that wasn't approved by the fans at all. I find this album to be fantastic in every way! The drums are wonderful according to me, they are supposed to sound like that so stop complaining. And cut the fucking bullshit about Metallica being sellouts!!! THEY MADE THIS MUSIC BECAUSE THEY FELT LIKE IT NOT BECAUSE THEY WANTED TO MAKE MORE MONEY OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT!

Horrible album, Metallica's worst. If they were trying to change the way they sounded, they could have done a much better job. There was not a single song that I can actually say I enjoyed thoroughly. I'm glad Death Magnetic sounds more akin to their older stuff.

this is the album that got me into metallica, i was just naive and had not heard their earlier stuff at the time. But going back and getting all their other tunes, this one is just so different from the rest, it doesnt 'feel' like a true metallica album. Still a good listen
