singer/songwriter albums are always dependent on the singer/songwriter, so if I don't like what Julien does on the album the production and everything else is pretty much irrelevant

have been shitposting so far, but gotta agree with Colton that chords and chord progressions and harmonics have very limited inherent value outside of the hands of a talented writer or performer, and it does seem strange to concentrate on these things when the record so clearly lives and dies by J.b. and her voice and her personality and her aesthetic and her other things that are not chord progressions

I mean, it's for sure probably a waste of time, but it's a pretty enjoyable way to waste time on Sput. I think we all like to do that one way or another. I say dark chord progression alluding to the atmosphere it creates is all. I say harmonics cause I JUST LOVE THE GODDAMN SOUND OF HARMONICS. Like a lot, really. I fuck around with harmonics when I have a guitar in my hand pretty regularly.

Sputting in any capacity is a waste of time, no arguments there

I'm allowed to like the parts of the music that I like. I already said her voice was "fucking beautiful" before even started talking about harmonics or minor chord progressions. Of course her singing and lyrics are the star of the show, but I think there's other interest as well. The inclusion of subtle percussion in other areas is also good songwriting to me, but I'm not saying that doesn't happen in folk all time cause it does. Nobody's saying the guitars are THE REASON the record is good. I was just saying good songwriting is happening and I picked the first example in my head.
That's my last big dumb paragraph for at least a few minutes lol

Johnny's been "shitposting" (but he agrees with me so all is well)
and Million we haven't decided if we're gonna let you like the parts of the music that you like yet. Sputnik is gonna vote. You might have to like the parts of the music you don't like. You might have to dislike the parts of the music you like. Nobody knows

Slappping a five on this
I get how people can find this boring, but the fact that it manages to be so enrapturing while also being so sparse is brilliant. Both of her albums get their claws in me when I listen to them
