The Hating is one of my favorite tracks on here
If I dug Korn more I would like this album more. This is great for a Korn album.

Yeah I feel that, I always dug Jon's vocals they were the seller for me. I actually think I'd like Korn a lot more if they cut out the DJ scratching bits like in Next In Line.
Also, I actually like Take Me contrary to most people here

Jon definitely has a unique voice, I'll give him that. Just too whiney for me.

fair enough, he just varies his deliveries really well and reflects emotion fairly well in general, I'm a bit of a stickler with vocals usually so thats usually a big selling point for a band for me

Back in like 99ish to 2003 these guys were in my top 5 favorite bands though lol

Ah gotcha, I took more to Slipknot then I did Korn, but maybe i'll go through this discog at some point

Oh, Slipknot was always #1 for me back in my nu-metal days, but Korn was like 2nd or 3rd

Yeah I think for me my top three back then was Linkin Park, Slipknot, (and because I always was really into hard rock then) Crossfade.

Mudvayne and Sevendust were up there for me too - I made a list a while back about my middle school/early high school jams and it was pretty extensive

There are great songs in here but as a whole I think the darkness/heaviness feels forced. I may prefer The Paradigm Shift honestly, it felt more quirky and interesting (like Lullaby for a Sadist for example). Keep in mind I heard them both one time. Honestly curious to hear what they do next. Maybe with less ear shattering production thanks

I prefer Paradigm too

I don't know, they both work for different moods for me. Both are the best they've done in well over a decade.

Crossfade good lord, we used to jam them every morning on the way to high school.

This tries way too hard to be DaRk and serious

"This tries way too hard to be DaRk and serious"
So does all good Korn

This goes above and beyond though, it's really cheesy. It seemed they were over it with the more mature approach of Paradigm, but I guess they know their fanbase well now
|
| |
Paradigm has a swagger unlike any other Korn, it felt like they matured and wanted to try new things and quirks (that crazy shaman-like chanting part in Lullaby for a Sadist is ace). I don't like how they forcedly went back to darkness with this one. However, I don't hate it

I don't know if Paradigm was mature - it just tweaked the dubstep aspect of Totality and made it actually subtle and way more fun. Nothing about Korn is mature imo

Not the best descriptor yeah, I meant that they sounded more like seasoned musicians having fun in the studio (and I'd say the documentary is proof) without the limitations of trying to satisfy a particular fanbase. It's not the usual bleak Korn sound. The soaring chorus of Mass Hysteria is a perfect example, or the quiet section in Punishment Time. Idk how to say it, it sounds like Korn yes but an adult version of the band
