I mean, Champagne Supernova isn't exactly the most complicated and original riff in the world and I'm a big Oasis fan.

That melody is in other songs too, and besides the band publicly stated these tributes anyway.

the complexity or originality of the riffs theyre ripping doesn't really play to my point...I just find it odd that people simply dismiss these glaring similarities as homage.

It lacked the intensity of past projects of Deafheaven. It didn't sting the ears nor have that dynamic pounding of energy and the rifts weren't as layered as past projects would indicate. This was to a degree a let down but then again it has been a wacky year for not only music but everything in general. Yikes!

I think they're glaring similarities because they ARE homage, man. Deafheaven have publicly spoken about the aforementioned things in interviews. They're meant to be tributes to those bands/artists.

I dunno. Even so, art is a constant cycle of inspiration AND influence. No artist is exempt from influence of other artists. They all take in some amount of it, whether purposely or subconsciously. Deafheaven just decided to make theirs recognizable, and spoke about it to honour those responsible.

I like how potsy strives for things he claims to stray from with his music taste: deplorable stagnancy in the realm of personal advancement, an attitude equal to a large pile of cattle dung, and a general distaste for anything that doesn't leave a repugnant odor upon this breath that he can force upon others spouting his worthless diatribe of an opinion.
