To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Autechre. The genius is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of music theory and synthesis most of the complexity will go over a typical listener's head. There's also their nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into their characterisation - their personal philosophy draws heavily from the Max/MSP documentation, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these songs, to realize that they're not just timeless- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Autechre truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the intricacy of Autechre's existencial piece "Drane2," which itself is a cryptic reference to Richard D. James' track "Bucephalus Bouncing Ball". I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Rob Brown's genius unfolds itself in their headphones. What fools... how I pity them. 😂 And yes by the way, I DO have an Autechre tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- And even they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand.

I feel like while Autechre were making this album they got really wrapped up in making the coolest, most sonically unconventional drum sounds possible and then ran out of time and just fudged all the other stuff in like 2 days
