this might be heresy (im coming in good faith here flylo is my fav and cosmo might be my favorite album ever) but sometimes i wonder how good flylo is beyond his cavalcade of talented friends and impeccable sample choice. his sound design sucks half of the time (you got lush ass atmospheres and then a unprocessed saw synth just cuts through it) and a lot of his drums are awkwardly unprocessed

like all spies is one of his more purely sequenced tracks and its extremely amateurish in its composition and production

FlyLo elevates everyone who works with him imho and is a genius. I’ll try and expand tomorrow—I almost sort of see where you’re coming from but if you like his music I’d be quick to disabuse you of the notion that he’s anything short of a master

oh i would definitely agree, but as someone who's tried to figure out his formula for years it's unfortunately a conclusion i've come to several times

if the whole album maintained the vibe of black balloons reprise -> fire is coming it would be phenomenal

takashi was the thing on the first half that made an impression on me the most

ending is underwhelming. second half is a lot more engaging, with like maybe 5 standout tracks? gonna sit with it though

@Rev: his naive way of utilizing samples and sound design is kind of what makes it his style though. I don't really care if it's a product of not knowing how (although I doubt it) or if it's a conscious decision to create tension, but either way it just clicks most of the time. that's my opinion at least. unprocessed stuff sounds rawer generally and can blend well with really processed stuff. in the end it's just sounds and how well they blend.
