The country has a fantastic music scene and it seems like I've only scratched the surface with karnivool, DLC and TBE

I guess it's a problem for not knowing the background of a classic rock band I barely ever listen to or something?

There are actually a lot of people that claim they're British because most of the members come from Britain. Despite the fact that they've lived most of their lives in Australia and the band formed there lol.

Aus had some pretty cool bands in the 80's aswell - The Triffids, The Church, The Go-Betweens.

You should start checking out some of the bands i named, Mongi. You'll love it.

I'll give you some help

Helm - mixture of alt/prog rock and sludge/post metal. Awesome vocalist who mainly sings but also does some hardcore vocals. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_YgYgwzsVM

Jericco - Middle eastern inspired alt rock. Their ep's were much proggier and better than their album which was a bit simplier/poppier. (but still pretty good) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1s6NYn7OQUY

Sydonia - Alt rock + groove metal - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=es7M9DfaXKo

Caligula's horse - Djenty prog rock/metal. Vocalist is incredible. Like a mix of Ian Kenny and Maynard - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MUFKTLC7MRg

Arcane - Same vocalist as Caligula's Horse. More traditional prog metal with a bit of Karnivoolish alt rock. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bb87NtY6gGE

Vanishing Point - Melodic prog metal. Once again, great vocalist - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8so-JtLWN-0

Voyager - Melodic prog metal + 80's pop. That may sound terrible but it's actually fucking awesome. Really catchy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q5YiSx8uics

Closure In Moscow - Post hardcore prog rock a la The Mars Volta. New stuff sounds very funkyish. Really catchy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o910S5mf75U

Circles - Mixture of djent and alternative rock. Vocalist is an aquired taste. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ypXDUHDcuZQ

Eleventh He Reaches London - Older stuff is more hardcoreish. Newer stuff is post rockish/australian folkish - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ty7Hm-mfOq8

Chaos Divine - Older stuff is more melodic death metal. New stuff is more traditional prog metal/alt rock - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VaQZg9i6_ZQ

Engine - Used to be called Engine Three Seven - alt rock http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=knQ4-OEkofI

THANK YOU! I thought I was the only one who didn't like his voice.

I actually don't mind his voice but i can definitely see how it could be annoying.

I forgot -

Twelve Foot Ninja - Alternative rock/metal that infuses many different genres - funk, electronic, reggae, latin etc. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I83Xp7itj8c

Breaking Orbit - Alt/prog rock. These guys are probably the most similar to Karnivool/Dead Letter Circus. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7sdfFTKVF10

Floating Me - Alt/prog rock - Bassist from Karnivool and drummer from Cog. Very Karnivoolish http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5qKJpp7RXo

and something a bit heavier

Ne Obliviscaris - Extreme prog. Progressive black metal+Violin. So epic. Funny note - violinist/clean vocalist is a massive Karnivool fanboy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WMRKBz89uRQ
