Honestly my fav 3 death albums are this, ITP and human and anymore I like ITP even more than human but all 3 of them are 5s IMO

And yeah obliteration is great and nekroplasm is even better than BDH

Human is 4th for me, but I'm sure we all knew that since everyone ranks Death albums on a daily basis. ;]

"Dude how can u call this album soulless? Have you ignored all the lyrics? of all the albums I've ever heard ESPECIALLY metal albums let alone dm albums, this album has more soul than most"

Here's my problem: yes, this is a well-composed prog death metal album and I acknowledge that, but it never resonates with me beyond that. I can never connect with it on any deeper level, and that's crucial when I love an album, as opposed to merely liking it. And that's obviously not a characteristic of death metal, because there's plenty of death metal I've loved because it hits me beyond just being well-written. Half of the arguments on this site consists of "it riffs hard" or "true metal" or simply "m/" and to me that's just not enough. I like this album, but I don't think I can ever love it. Something is just missing for me.

Dunno if you've noticed but that isn't really the case with this album, people have more in depth reasons for loving this album, undoubtedly due in part to the fact that it actually has soul unlike a lot of DM albums :D

I guess perhaps I'll never understand the praise then. Even with other Death albums that aren't as soulful, I can at least enjoy the technicality of the compositions; this album doesn't even have that, with some of the easiest riffs and interludes in their entire discog. Maybe I'm looking at the album from the entirely wrong angle, but everything seems generic and linear to me.

I need no excuse to love this album.

The fact that this is less technical than say ITP and TSOP only works in its favour as far as I'm concerned.

I do slightly prefer Human though. That album's just about right in terms of technicality.

I mean I love this album but it easily stands out as the low point in the discog

Thought your were elite piss.

TSOP is easily the low point in their discog for me.
