yeah but outside of vocal harmonies that go "ooo" with an occasional hint of a falsetto it's pretty distinctly different than Brian Wilson's songwriting style

Well yeah you can take the harmony out of a Brian Wilson song but you can't take the Paul out of a MidCartney song. Or whatever. The harmony is the most interesting part

I like the way that minor chord creeps in at that one part and then resolves back (to the tonic I think?) before you even really get a chance to process it, that’s pretty cool

also how can you take the harmony out of a Brian Wilson song them shits are built on harmonies

Well if you're writing a song and you want it to sound like a Brian Wilson song even though you are not Brian Wilson
Then you'd take the harmony but you'd the leave the rest bc you're not that shameless (maybe)
That said, this has reminded me that one of the best shibuya kei albums literally starts with a looped sample from God Only Knows, so maybe it pays to be that shameless sometimes

I guess that would be the approach but Wilson is actually pretty diverse in terms of melodies so it would be impressive for anyone to capture his sound without harmonies

listen to Smiley Smile though fr I wanna see how much Ars DNA you have

Can't jam Smiley Smile for a while so my DNA will stay pure, but I got my brother to hook me up with the Smile Sessions (alongside a bunch of other Kerlassic Shit) just before I raided a manga cafe pc and undertook my Final Ipod Sync, will get to it in the soon probably

Being able to delete whole threads was mx's way of obviating the time machine
