It's all about Gently and Skin Ticket.
I loved old Slipknot when they were sometimes able to go dark as fuck without going full-on teen angst. The Shape and Disasterpiece is sick too, but Gently was next level.

^ the thing with songs like Gently, Skin Ticket...or songs on the s/t like Scissors or Prosthetics...is that I haven't really found another metal band that did music in this kind of style
That's what makes me respect those first two albums. In a certain way, they are quite unique.

t/t was apparently heavily influenced by Neurosis.. This explains a lot.. Still my favorite SK record, for the record.

Spent probably thousands of hours in my youth playing Counterstrike and listening to this record; album is right at the top of my all-time guilty pleasures list.

I don't feel the least bit guilty for liking this album tbh. Sure, the lyrics can get dumb but as a whole this is a well done slab of crushing metal. And they definitely got their own sound going on with those early albums, something I always respect in a metal band

It was good for a mainstream heavy record; it really spoke to my angry 12 year old heart. Plus, as a big Resident Evil fan, it didn't hurt that My Plague was like the theme to the movie.

That first Resi Evil was actually a fun little movie. I always wondered how they were able to cover those dogs in pastrami like that.
