I like some stuff that is classed as first wave black metal including early Sodom and I like it because it doesn't sound like black metal. I find it hard to class it as black metal when it sounds more like early death-thrash, just rawer.

Well the stuff I'm referring to does sound like early death-thrash because that's ultimately what it is and the main difference between it and the stuff the bands went on to record later (that isn't considered black metal by anyone) is that it was rawer, sloppier and more evil sounding.
