I'll save this threads time and see the bands that you guys have rated high and give them a listen, my initial reaction to Cryptopsy and Psycroptic is musically very appealing and talented...vocally eh, I'll give it a try to see if it grows on me. I use to hate the vox of Black Dahlia and BTBM but they grew on me and now I love it, so I'll see. Thanks for the suggestions, and I hate coming off as a dick but if people want to criticize my music taste I'll criticize right back some times. We're all free to listen to whatever pleases us but I try and keep an open mind!

yeah, i like pth a bit more as well, but i'd rather say for certain once pth's new album comes out.

PTH are so tasteless, honestly. Their next album will really make up my mind, but BTBAM are a lot better.

for sure, a band can easily make two good albums in a row, but the third one really makes 'em.

Yes. If they learn to have a little restraint, it will be super cool.

i can't see pth doing those quiet things that even btbam is capable of. but yeah, i hope they show some restraint.

BTBAM, despite being incredibly self-indulgent, still have a huge amount of restrains in their ambient sections or even in their... I don't know, they do leave a lot of room in their music.

The only time I can think of PTH doing that is that one bass interlude in Bone Marrow. And those gay piano outros don't count.

but when they leave a lot of room in their music, the song ends up being more than 10minutes long. i'm not complaining though.

OMG YES, why the hell do they do those piano things? none of them add any purpose to the songs, it's just a bunch of arpeggios.

Divinity Within? Yeah that was pointless.

Protest the Hero in a jar.

not only Divinity Within, a LOT of their songs have them.

i don't think they sweep THAT much...

They don't, I'm using the term "sweep" as a generalization for mindless shredding, which they do constantly.

BTBAM is like 75% shred and PTH is about 96% which is a headache for me.

i learned how to play Fortress, and i actually started to appreciate it much more.

i think they need to incorporate more transitions between parts. like, they could easily toss in some quiet stuff and then pick it back up again.

I think so too. I like PTH too (or I used to, haven't listened in months) but they're just gratuitous. That's their appeal though, so be it.

I did enjoy some of the quiet parts in Kezia, but hopefully they'll do that in the future.

Also, I think 'Obfuscation' is the best track here.
