I swore I would try to be easier on Lennon so I can't say anything.

Yeah but he made an album of him and his wife screaming for 40 minutes so he's a TRUE ARTIST.
|

bro they made a song where the only lyrics are “I want you (I want you so bad.). She’s so heavy!” And we all love that shit. Obviously the Beatles were deeper than their lyrics on paper lmao.

I mean I Am the Walrus honestly IS genius though
Lennon wrote it to confuse people who were looking too deeply into his lyrics by combining the idea for 3 different songs he wrote into one, drowning it in psych effects, and tacking on a sample of a radio play (a VERY early use of sampling in pop)
Not to forget George Martin's great use of cello throughout the song
It's the perfect absurdist kryptonite for a snobby music critic like rowan I guess ;)

@noler this is what I try to get people to understand about Young Thug
|

John Lennon didn’t do the production so I guess it doesn’t matter. George Martin gets no love!!!
|

and the melody is good af. “Sitting in an English Garden, waiting for the sun...”

I mean yeah, Martin's orchestral decisions in I Am the Walrus (especially the cello) are some of his best

Absurdism/word salad lyrics are super under-appreciated and build a great atmosphere
in opposition to a sea of over serious drudgery

I even like Martin's stuff on Yellow Submarine tbh

Yellow Submarine is far from my favorite on Revolver, but anyone who absolutely hates it is just a grumpy old fart living in a 20-something's body

“Sitting in an English Garden, waiting for the sun...” singled out literally the only part of lennons entire vocal melody i kinda like
musical backdrop of the song is fine and the strings are my favorite part of the song so ill give you that but theyre def not enough to make up for the stuff i dont like about the song
|
| |
It’s a rhythmic vocal delivery. (young thug?)
|
| |
bro goo goo g’get the fuck outta here the lyrics are fun as hell to sing along to
