"on Jesus Christ Pose comments a few comments back, I think the reason that song takes a bit to grow on a lot of people is it's just so fucking abrasive and droning and menacing, I was intimidated by that song the first time I heard it. But as I got older and more and more into heavier and more extreme music it clicked and now it's one of my favorite tracks of theirs. Songs like that are why you can't forget Soundgarden besides being one of the best grunge bands was one of the best metal bands flat out of it's era. They get fucking heavy man. In that ominous, doomy sort of way bands like Sabbath did. "

That was excellent.

Listening to this and Superunknown again they made quite a stylistic jump going from this to the next. Superunknown, save for two tracks, is like alternative rock with some experimental touches while Badmotorfinger is metal af

How they managed to pull off both so well in a 3 year timeframe speaks for the quality of the band

That Badmotorfinger-Superunknown-Down on the Upside stretch is a hell of a run.

I agree with your overall rating, but totally disagree on a few songs. Room A Thousand Years Wide is a monster tune. It's one of the climaxes of the album. Slaves and Bulldozers could go on for 20 minutes as long as it stays that heavy. Badmotorfinger is about the heavy and the power. There are enough quicker tunes to make it work. New Damage is a really good tune as well. Lastly, Badmotorfinger kills Superunknown.

If I remember correctly, "Slaves and Bulldozers" was the last song Chris performed before his death. This record is a classic.

One of the bands I might not see live.

And even if somehow they do a reunion tour, no Cornell is a big deal.

On another note, Rusty Cage might be one of the best openers ever.
