Whatsurname is the greatest closer to a Green Day album ever. hell one of the best closers on any album.

We all have albums that are close to our hearts, usually because they were our first-mine was Master of Puppets.
I never really got into this album whereas everyone else did, which my friends found somewhat amazing as we were thirteen at the time and everyone else loved it but me. Most of the criticism I've heard about it is to do with its alleged over-politicalness (?) or the relative simplicity of the music. Well, Green Day are pop-punk, so instrumental technicality never takes priority rendering that point moot. Although Billy does play a significant amount of lead guitar-work this time around. I was probably too young to understand the political thing, it just so happened that the album didn't excite me too much. I am looking forward to their new release though. This Message Edited On 01.17.09

Whatsername is great, I think it works well because it's very low key after homecoming, and the simplicity helps it stand out

I hope Greenday add some tech/death or grind elements to their new material.
|
| |
Theyll prob. go deathcore cause thats where the moneys at
|
| |
That is very true. So we're likely to hear Billie Joe doing some Brees and having grown a fringe. Can't wait.

hahaha go listen to your advanced technical riffs
I'll stick with my green day power pop rock

I listen to tech death etc. and I also like punk. You don't have to use complicated chords/structures to write a good song.
In fact I wouldn't expect anything more than that from Greenday who always have been a 3-chord pop/punk band.
|

Well I'm hardly leaping to the defence of my favourite band, just giving my 2 cents.

i wouldn't call them punk. Punk is basically dead.
Green day are just a hell of a good pop rock band. The Appeal of this album to me is the melodies, the way everything sounds good together, the subtle piano that appears from time to time the over the top epic characteristics and basically no bad songs.
ok, fan boy rant over

Thankyou Adam West.
they're earlier stuff is pop/punk and now they're more pop/rock.

It's pretty good. just like all their albums.
|

Dookie, Insomniac and Nimrod do it for me.
I am pretty interested to see what they do with their next album though. Whether they build on the AI style or go back towards their older style. I'd guess more towards AI because that was their most popular album.
