Bloc you must be listening to a completely different album bro.

Cover art is deeply drenched in dark romanticism. I must give this my attention. Sounds great. Thx for the review.

This is often regarded as their best of the Tomi Joutsen era Amorphis, and they've had a very consistent sound since he took over after Pasi.
Pasi era Amorphis is the rabbit hole. The first couple albums were doom laden melodic death metal to some degree. Their third album Elegy was a more progressive take on their sound, and they slowly started shifting more and more prog rock over the next few albums until the newer material became almost unrecognizable from their original sound.
That being said I would absolutely recommend Tales from the Thousand Lakes and Elegy from the Pasi era.
