Not seeing the Phil comparison at all. Not only that but Phil blows this guy out of the water.

The heavy stuff sounds like Anselmo the typical nu metal quirky bits sound like Davis
He does that pitbull southern drawl gravelly thing singing lyrics like "fucking cocksucker", it's a dead ringer for big Phil

The original tends to blow the imitator out of the water
He's better at doing Phil than Davis imo, the girly camp squeals and raga muffin vocal bits are whack compared to Korn

never once have i thought of Anselmo when hearing these guys

The heavy stuff, to me anyway is much more desperate sounding than Phil, who sounds far more comfortable. Plus forcing stuff outside of his natural vocal range makes it sound more visceral and nasty while Phil sounds more like a tough guy who will kick your head in. I prefer Chad because of that, plus regardless I prefer this to anything Pantera ever did.

"The heavy stuff sounds like Anselmo"
not really. at least no more than any other vocalist from that era.

It's not like Nu Metal had much vocal talent to begin with in general, very one noted.

I have no idea how that's possible but ok
I'm sure people are praising this for being particularly raw and rabid sounding in the verses compared to most nu metal and that's where I hear it, I mean it's not exactly the same but it's very noticeable to me that this dude has listened to a lot of Pantera

Calculating - Davis was an originator if nothing else, Chino too. Not the worlds best singers but they had their own thing going on

I don't really see why this is such a problem really, especially if you like Phil/Davis as a vocalist to begin with and the fact that's just one aspect when so many other things here are top notch.

The fact he sounds a bit like Anselmo to me I already said is fine, hardly rare.
Doing the feminine stuff like JD plus some of his typical scat sort of stuff is just tragic, but if you came to these dudes at the same time then yeah, maybe not a big deal
For me it's not just singing like Elvis, it's the full lip curl and wobbly leg. Might as well just suck Jon's cock and gurgle with that, why stop there?

"Doing the feminine stuff like JD plus some of his typical skat sort of stuff is just tragic, but if you came to these dudes at the same time then yeah, maybe not a big deal"
Yeah that's probably a contributing factor. I never really care who does things first, just who I like more.

JD has trademark things, like Michael Jackson - chamone at your own risk, you'll be called out.

This is the only album that reminds me of it. His vocals are very reminiscent of what Phil was doing with the gang. If you were a band coming out at this time you were influenced by Pantera I have no doubt about that. Not debating which is better, it doesn't bother me. I liked the debut a lot Titan, interesting stuff considering the genre. Korn's debut will always be the crown jewel for me..I'll always argue they were original whether or not people dug it. I agree with Doof, I can absolutely hear the resemblance.. whether or not he dislikes it ha ha.

Only thing I see as a JD trademark is this: https://youtu.be/jRGrNDV2mKc?t=2m38s
Chad doesn't do that here, so I'm fine with it.

There are a lot of very distinct nu-metal vocalists. SOAD, Deftones, to even newer bands like Sicmonic

I don't really hear him as trying to sound like JD, at least for me he doesn't push the point. You wanna near a tragic copy check the new Suicide Silence singles.

Phil/JD v Chad comparisions? Don't get it, but Chad destroys them both in vocal ability, personally.
