Basically based in the hyperbolic acclaim it has received over this 18 years man, and because I've never seen the most minimum tendency for that praise to go down. I think the love for this album only increases as the years go by.

I'm not sure man, though I hardly think that'll happen. We'll have to wait and see.

im gonna cheat a bit and quote wikipedia but i think its not a stretch to say its an apt description of the album "Radiohead's views on rampant consumerism, social alienation, emotional isolation, and political malaise; in this capacity, OK Computer is often interpreted as having prescient insight into the mood of 21st-century life"
as society changes, this insight could get less and less relatable. True, i dont think society will change that much in 50 years for this to be totally alien, but it certainly could be less relatable.

Sorry to disagree Mort, but as far as I can think society is sinking deeper and deeper in "Rampant consumerism, social alienation, emotional isolation and political malaise". I think this is going to get even more relatable as time goes by, based on that quotation.

I'm also an optimist man, but I can't deny the reality that surrounds me. I'm just being objective here, I hope I'm wrong though.

Cam dude, if you think it's a 4.5 then you must think it deserves acclaim...
And I think people will still like this in 50 years. People still respect Dylan and The Beatles 50 years on, and their concerns are not exactly relevant nowadays.

raising this band to the level of the beatles and bob dylan is questionable tho

In terms of quality, it's a matter of opinion, but not in terms of acclaim.

no not even in acclaim, dylan and the beatles are way more established than this band
Radioheads popularity and acclaim is really exaggerated on the internet, they are nowhere near the beatles

not even close!

Well Radiohead don't have the popular acclaim artists like the Beatles and Dylan did in their prime, but neither does any artist worth a shit these days. So their acclaim on the internet is really the only way we can compare their acclaim to that of old artists.
For that matter, Ok Computer and Kid A have received every bit as much acclaim in the time since their release as I imagine Dylan and the Beatles did in the same time after the releases of Highway 61 or Sgt. Pepper, with the caveat of Radiohead's obvious lack of the same popular/mainstream success, which I believe is irrelevant to their longevity.

"Cam dude, if you think it's a 4.5 then you must think it deserves acclaim..."
Man, I just bumped this from a 4 today and I'm really sure and positive that this is a superb record and I deeply respect it, all I was saying is that maybe I won't acclaim it in 50 years. I also think that true acclaim goes towards classic albums (5s)

"raising this band to the level of the beatles and bob dylan is questionable tho"
in terms of influence and establishment, yes, it's questionable
when it comes to the quality of the music, in my opinion it's better than dylan.

Yeah I prefer Radiohead over Dylan too. No matter if their influence and establishment is debatable.
