That require no mental hoops to enjoy.

Wildcard, that's not a good reason. Also mental hoops are fun

Alright it’s the most inspired the band has been in well over a decade, the production is fucking flawless, the flow from song to song is impeccable, and nine albums in the band still somehow manages to sound fresh and push their sound into new territory.
I think the only valid complaint is that Chino’s harsh vocals are noticeably weaker but the man is 50 so im gonna go ahead and give him a pass.

I mean, that’s not even mentioning individual moments that stand out as just spectacularly performed. The instrumental buildup near the end of Genesis, Urantia literally them perfecting the loud-quiet dynamic that they’re known for, the outro to Error, the hook in Radiant City, and how Headless is just straight up one of the most breathtaking songs they’ve ever written.
You know an album is some good shit when a track like Ohms is considered “weak”
That’s all in my opinion of course. I’ve only really been a fan since Koi No Yokan so I bet there’s a shit ton of old heads that disagree

Genesis, Spell and Ohms are god-tier. I'm particularly salty about this album because it's the first one since Like Linus where I just straight up dislike some of the songs which is a weird new experience for me with Deftones

Headless is pretty nice, so is Radiant City but they're not mind blowing or anything

what are the bad ones?
ive disliked tones songs in the past that arent on this (a lot of them are on koi honestly half that record is ass but its balanced out by half that record being amazing so)

I really didn't like tracks 3, 6, and 7. Which Koi songs did you dislike? That album took a while to grow on me

Haha I can get behind that with one exception; I hated Romantic Dreams at first but it's somehow grown to be a mainstay in my rotation

Romantic Dreams: BANGS
Poltergeist: BANGS
Graphic Nature: It's pretty good
Gauze: BANGS
Goon Squad: you're right, BANGS

graphic nature is probably the worst deftones song so any recognition of it being weaker than the others is fine by me

HOLY SHIT, gauze riffs so hard thanks for reminding me of this one

There was just something about Koi that never connected with me. It took me many listens to figure out what it was. I think it's a combination of things, the flow of the album is very haphazard and it has a weird kind of tension that took a while for me to appreciate. It's a good album though. So is Gore even though everyone hates that one cause of the production

everyone hates that one cause of the production
and for good reason, especially putting gore tracks alongside diamond eyes, koi, or this, it just sounds SO bad

I like how raw that album is. It made me finally realize that Chino>Stephen in terms of songwriting. If I wanted 8-string chugs I'd listen to Meshuggah
