this is a lot better than Bobby Shmurda but considerably worse than Barter 6

bruh Kendrick Lamar is not a rapper whose fanbase is notably or especially white compared to others. if you think Kung Fu Kenny really gets no love from the hood you're probably just an edgy suburbanite who loves sniping "respectable hip hop artists" with pithy remarks on the internet whilst ironically listening to mumble rappers (and calling them all musical geniuses, lol)

yeah but if you told them Kendrick Lamar's fanbase is 95% white your black friends would probably be offended.. lol

Yeah, every thing Half and Cygnatti said. I've been black my whole life and people at large have been fucking with Kendrick since Good Kidd came out when I was in high school, AT THE VERY LEAST. Lmfao @ white people using an artist having white fans as a critique. Like, doesn't their favorite artists also get invalidated somehow if that were the case?

butt.

Damn what happened to Drifter? Kid was easily sput’s resident hip hop expert but I’m realizing I haven’t seen him around here in at least a year

I'm working on a rap review right now, the site needs more rap coverage in general. Although I do feel like 2020 has been a somewhat lackluster year for the genre

Idk about EXPERT. Some of his takes throw me off pretty hard lmao. But yeah, awesome dude. He's around. He's had new account that I can't remember the name of for a pretty good while now, that he doesn't get on much. He invited me to a cool discord maybe a couple weeks ago. Rec'd me some cool California G funk a while back and I finally got back to him after listening like a month or 2 ago.

Edit: Colt, I think 2020's been solid for hip hop, but not a lot has been blowing me away.

got any recs? been checking some of the general hip hop recs you gave me before, lots of great stuff. the new 21 Savage is great, despite me never liking him before. not sure if that's your thing though

yeah new 21 savage is solid. im a big fan of savage mode 1 too, still my fav project by him.

i feel like i liked hip hop a lot more a few years ago, haven't really been listening to it as much recently. used to like all the backpacker stuff a lot but a lot of it has kinda grown off me

If I can think of anything you haven't heard, I'll shoot it your way Colt!

But yeah, I don't mind 21 in any major capacity. A lot of his shit is bland to me and his lyrics are were super underwritten before he started trying to go for more uplifting music. But sometimes he just has the vibes. It took me a while to love that song "No Heart" but now I just play that shit shamelessly. Plus I'm kind of excited to listen to his new drop soon, I heard about the Morgan Freeman skits.

And to Ryus, I'm still a backpack kid, but I try not to prioritize any one aspect of hip hop. I love oldhead shit, sometimes I'll even really enjoy newer pop stuff or some shit like Black Kray. I want to always be open.

R.A. The Rugged Man's album from this year is my rap aoty. Amazing record from the east coast with a ton of variety in the subject matter, in his flows, and in the beats.

Also, Drifter here, lol I am no expert on hip hop there are a lot of holes in my knowledge... maybe on the west coast but even still there's so much out there that even with what I know it would take many more years to become an "expert" lol

sounds good

and yeah some of it is a bit bland, as a lot of trap can be, and his lyrics are far from mindblowing, but there's some pretty memeable one-liners, and his flow is better than ever. He also calls you a pussy over 100 times which is pretty great

that sound has kinda been totally oversaturated lol. surprised it hasnt died off yet, though we may be at the tail end of it.

Dude, I love lyrics. Like serviceable lyrics are kind of neutral, but bad lyrics can definitely hurt a project and good ones can definitely help, or be the thing that takes something already good over the top.

Yeah, I'll definitely say that 21 has some swagger when it comes to riding beats and he does have some one-liners, you aren't wrong.
