Anime metal still hasn't reached it's peak, but when it does, it has Periphery to deal with

“ Invent Animate is just Time, The Valuator but lazier”

Possibly the worst progcore take of all time, doesn’t even make sense

Also, I'm glad that venin confirmed her comical level of recency bias for pages on end in this thread. Really the kind of fanbase this band deserves.

Recency bias? Sorry I don't prefer music that sounds like it's best experienced on a 1930s turntable?

Dude ADB you are missing out on so much cool stuff with that way of thinking. A shame, really.

It's really dependent on the artist and the production quality. Beatles for instance sound incredibly dated meanwhile I jammed Beggars Banquet from the Stones and the drums sounded like they could've been recorded 30 years later and everything sounded clear. And Jagger's vocals carried a more emotive feeling than anyone in the Beatles lol

it must be exhausting judging music solely on the 'emotional charge' that it sends into your dick

gee it's almost as if music is meant to get messages across and be an expression of self, therefore emotional connection is quite important

"i believe Drifter's point is that you sifting through Music As A Whole for the sake of whatever you consider to be a meaningful emotional connection is tantamount to holding a used coke can under the niagara falls and claiming you're getting the best of it" - JohnnyoftheWell (feel free to delete it)

i'm clearly trying tho, but it's hard bc it's not fuckin worth sitting through 100+ albums that sound like I needed to be born 50+ years ago to properly appreciate just to affirm my opinion that the 90s onward has consistently brought me more emotional connection.

Maybe the energy just doesn't translate as well through older recordings but I've noticed that pre at least 80s or 70s, rock just sounded... so soft and unconvincing. Like if you turn on an Elvis record you just hear his soulful voice over some soft instrumentals. And like that was probably considered way heavier at the time, so contextually it was groundbreaking, but for someone going back, they'd likely be more convinced by a modern artist covering it in a new style, or it'd just sound dated and old.

I think you’re right. If you don’t find it emotional and that’s what you’re looking for, there’s no reason to look where you probably won’t find it. Like, you could struggle through a crap ton of albums for one or two, or go to what has a better chance of you connecting emotionally.

You’re particularly drawn to the mixed voice styles prominent in some grunge, most post-hardcore, and often in metalcore. Shit, a lot of those bands would probably gush about Nirvana or AiC. So, if that’s your thing, why force there to be something that you already know isn’t there? Maybe things will change as time passes, and you’re certainly free to continue trying, it’s just fine either way.

@MoM: Spot on tbh. I definitely respect what the early bands did to help get us to this point, but I respect them more than I enjoy them personally if that makes any sense.

It does. Like, i feel the same way about Chuck Berry and his contemporaries. Cool, but so not on my list to check out.
