It's just really plain and uneventful, on Sky I could discern all tracks after a couple of listens but this one feels like a the same whole frequency and pitch for the entire duration. It's not bad, sounds like them but... Just uneventful really.

Thrice/Wind of No Change/Lilac/Light Which I Bleed are all pretty great standouts for me. Doesn't top their peak but I like it the most out of the last 3 for sure.

I enjoyed the new album. Not completely sold on The Warden or The Light I Bleed, but I dug the rest. Will definitely be a grower as it's not as immediate as this album, or the previous one. The melodies don't really pop but they worm their way into your head still, and I imagine this'll work even better on repeat listens.

I dont know what it is with Katatonia now but i dont get the same hype or excitement about new material like i do with Opeth, My dying bride, Paradise Lost. It just feels like a nothing new, ill still check the new one but my expectations arent high

IMO, the string of the first 5 tracks on Nightmares is great. The album loses my interest and meanders a little in the back half. The first half is mostly singles though so I’m more familiar with those songs. I can see warming up more to the later songs. Better than city burials for sure.

Honestly this new one is weird because nothing is intrinsically terribly different, to complain that it's dry or meandering feels strange since the band has always had a certain lifelessness to their vibe (in a pleasant girlfriend left me after my 7th double shift so now I'm power smoking a pack of Newports in the cold rain kinda way) but now it's more like, I ran out of milk for my cereal kind of sad. It just lacks any real sort of build after each track starts off kinda lovely and fizzles out.
