So I don’t wanna add fuel to the flame but from my perspective it’s kinda a weak theme for an album. I get that the singer had a lot of grief from this and he let it out in the lyrics of this album and I’m all for that but you can’t be surprised when people don’t receive the theme that well. I remember when my cat died and I wrote a few songs in my head about it and thinking “if I were to ever release this, I would never tell anyone it’s about a cat”. It’s just too specific and personal when lyrics should be broad and ambiguous imo. Again no disrespect to the singer I totally get it but cmon it is a lil silly

i dont think its the theme for the whole album, as far as im aware only one track is directly about it.
could be completely wrong tho

I mean... the album is just about anticipating loss and grieving inevitable death... the title track is the one thing that is specific to Kuma, but since Kuma died, the album has a new light

Yeah I’m not sure. One song is enough for my point though

"It’s just too specific and personal when lyrics should be broad and ambiguous imo"
personal lyrics are often more affecting as broad lyrics i think

ya that is 100% a personal preference thing lol. i myself would take specific over broad too

Yeah broad or ambiguous arent necessarily the words I was looking for. Not sure how to express exactly how I feel about this but that’s the best I could do

eh music is an expression of emotion, like an emotional release for some of these bands... no reason to not be personal if it's real for them

Oh man I thought the cat thing was a meme. Doesn't really hurt my enjoyment of the album I just didn't realize what it was about lol

Virtute the cat explains her departure is absolutely brilliant and basically covers the same principles but there’s some fine line I can’t put my finger on that distinguishes it from the lyrics on this album. Edit: we’ll I guess the lyrics are just better and it’s more of an allegory than a specific thing that happened to singer

| |
Yeah tyman but doesn’t mean the audience is going to automatically identify with it or appreciate it

Bound to the Burn is one of their best and will be a longtime fan favourite. The singles from this thing were top tier

Haven’t cared for a counterparts album since tragedy will find us but thought I would check this out seeing as you guys were all excited about it and I have to say… this is no different

Brendan said in an interview that this was written as IF this was the last CP record but if this winds up bringing them bigger/better tour offers they'd be wise to keep going. The only question is how they're going to top this and whether or not they'll for once be able to maintain what is now, INARGUABLY, their strongest lineup to date.

It isn’t easy but it’s honest work johnny
