Blank Face and Oxymoron? If so, I’d agree. I can’t stand K-Dot dick riders saying that this album is high art. I understand that he has fans that will lap up whatever he puts out and he’s already done plenty of great things, but I feel like he’s in slump, personally.

I loved this album man

“I feel like he’s in slump, personally”
While i like stuff from his last couple of albums, i do get a feeling, which might not mean much of anything, that he doesn’t really know what to do these days. I’m not expecting a total reinvention every time, but it just doesn’t seem as on the ball lately

yeah dude made probably the most acclaimed album of this century so far in tpab... then went the complete opposite direction and made one of the most commercially popular albums in recent memory in damn. there's gotta be a thought of "what now?"

I think it's pretty clear on this album that after all of that he went inward. Which for me makes this a fascinating listen, if not my favorite, but I can see how for many it's uninteresting/navel-gazing.

I can't be the only one that was hoping for a TPAB 2 style album at some point. But that magic was 8 years ago. Idk if it could even be recaptured or if he'd ever even be interested in returning to that creative space he was in during those years.
"habits & contradictions and oxy. blackface is meh"
I mentally blocked out his earlier work for some reason. Imo, that makes 4 Schoolboy records that are better than this.

He definitely doesn’t have it in him to make a TPAB2

i mean this is better than damn. its pretty much a summary of all his work before, lyrically and musically. so NOW the question is where does he go next. esp with him leaving tde now its a whole new chapter.
maybe we'll finally get that rock album 😹
|
| |
Definitely not better than damn and if it’s a summary of his previous work it’s a bad one
“so you”
Nah I’m not a zoomer so I’m already well into the acceptance phase of becoming my dad and my quarter life crisis was only like 6 years ago so I have a few years yet til I enjoy this

Maybe Kendrick/Yves Tumor could work but I wouldn't want a whole album of that. Just one song pls.

jokes aside i feel like kendrick probably could make a good "rock" album in the vein of slowthai's new album (or at least, better than slowthai)

that wouldn't have to be bad. travis has done some great collabs.
my first thought always goes to this one https://youtu.be/pyMInaUx5so

Idk what K-Dot's rock taste is even like. Not sure I'd be interested. Since we're talking what-ifs, imagine if 2014 D'Angelo and 2015 Kendrick got into the studio together. Throw in Erykah Badu and Black Thought and Robert Glasper in there. Chris Dave and Thundercat playing drums and bass on every song. It'd be FUCKING STUPID.

i mean i prob enjoy travis's forays into hip hop as much as anyone here but i don't think he'd be a good match for kendrick
i envision a kendrick "rock" album to be bit more blues/psych sounding than the stuff travis typically makes i guess, but yeah same with milli i have no idea what his taste in rock even is
