Album Rating: 4.5

I'd normally be all over this repeatedly, but this has been a weird week. BTBAM, WITTR, Switchfoot, Lorde, James McMurtry, Sturgill Simpson...

There are a lot of different personal philosophies on this site as to what it means to rate something, and what the particular rating number means. For some users, a rating is a settled verdict on an album that's unlikely to change in the near future. For others, it's just a snapshot of their feelings at a particular time, with no pretence to represent an enduring, stable attitude. For some users, a 4.5 means you basically want to marry the album. For others, it means "this was a super cool listen, hope to come back to it."

i will not believe that from someone who won't pledge themselves to a 4.5 rated album in literal wedlock

'4.5s should be top 5%, 5s top 1%'

26/2088 = 1.24%

123/2088 = 5.89% (added to together is 7%+ obviously)

I have failed.

I've pledged myself to one woman and one God, is that enough?

NO you must pledge yourself once more to a single circular listenable CD-R that you have listened to and bestowed a 4.5 rating or higher upon
and it must be by Tentenko. i don't make the rules here.

I'm all for remaining as balanced as possible. I actually admire those who can keep their list of 5's and 4.5's so trim. I used to have the "settled verdict" approach but my tastes evolve too rapidly and usually the best I can do now is a projection +/- 0.5. So this album could sink to a 4 or ascend to a 5 in time, but it most likely won't change more than that. As for upholding high standards, I've just mellowed out in my old age I guess. I love loving music and hyping it for others to see so that they can proceed to assign it a 3 and call me hyperbolic. After 13 years, I don't think I could possibly change my niche without wiping my 570 reviews and 2k + ratings or starting entirely over with a new account.
