They grew on me over the course of the whole album, but I'm still someway short of getting fully behind them. I can see how they work well with the style, just don't like them that much...yet.

Drums are okay
I understand why people like the vox but they're just not my style at all

I really like the vocals tbh, the whole hipster/stoner vibe doesn't bother me

I can’t really imagine any other vocals with this. Really keyed in to the dazed out feel underlying all the heavy tones

any other vocals would suck for sur. knowing his range adds a lot for me too, esp since he used to scream and get aggro out of nowhere on electra and like twice on astronaut. this whole album feels very intentional and natural
also an extremely underrated lyricist

Matt Talbot is honestly one of my favorite lyricists. Perfect blend of abstract surrealism and gut level emotion.

I'm picturing a forcep in ice
That you would see if you could reach
And reconnect the engine to the delicate lens
But I just sit and wait for a blip to break the perfect little thin green line
Breaks my fucking heart

So wait - the people that hate the vocals - this is your first experience with Hum?

this album is weirdly more accessible vocally than their other albums bc of how much more buried they are on this album, but at the same time, i can't imagine appreciating the croony Hum charm would be easy without at least one downward/astronaut phase

"Matt Talbot is honestly one of my favorite lyricists" [2]
He often has this weird combination of like nerdy and romantic going on with his lyrics, and I dig it a lot

@teamster - hate is the wrong word, but yes, I'm a Hum virgin.

I was stuck on a bridge of one of my songs and thought to myself, why not just record a brand new guitar section and try to sound like Hum with it? And it worked out splendidly.
