@Mesm277: Devin Townsend was told to dial the harsh stuff back or his voice would be toast. He himself admitted that most of his singing is done my pure force. He is a great artist with vocal chords of steel, but his singing technique isn't perfect. With harsh stuff it's mostly not about technique. There is no safe way to do them actually, nothing that's scientificly proven at least. How often does the singer utilize them? How much does he tour? And how resilient is his voice, because every one is different in this regard? Devin Townsend is an exceptional singer, because he lasted so long with this style. Oli didn't, so he had to move on.
