I don't think they said that but them saying it wouldn't change the way this sounds. And the energetic, groovy feel of the song I mentioned is very close to this one's in general imo, even though I should clarify that I don't think that they sound exactly the same. I just think that the connections are very obvious. And that wouldn't change if Ulver had never heard a Depeche Mode song (would suck for them though), it's just in this album's sound. This has more influences of course, I'm particularly thinking of the gospel-influenced sound of Rolling Stone

Yeah there's no question this is unique, but the Depeche Mode connections are there as Rik said. There's more than just that Depeche Mode and this are dark, it's the rhythms, the synths, the layering, etc.

i guess i just make different associations; no matter, anyway. instrumentation seems vastly different

Yeah plenty of it is different and the album is very diverse, just some connections; no direct relationship to Depeche Mode really. Like I said, The Future Sound of London and other bands are also some influences on this, but it's still unique and does its own thing.

I like the less "pop" songs on here the best. So Falls the World, and Angelus Novas are my favorites by a long shot. I don't think this style of Ulver is necessarily for me, but Garm's voice makes me want to listen to it from start to finish every time. Wish I could hire him to sing me to sleep.

It was either you or at least one other person who's said that before haha, and I totally see it too. The closer's actually grown off me a bit since first hearing this, but it's still great. My top 3 atm are Rolling Stone, So Falls the World, and Transverberation.

Really glad they got female vocals on here, they really add to Rolling Stone and 1969 in particular.

Yeah, the album is consistent in general, but I have to say that I never really cared for the closer

Coming home is an odd choice for a closer. Kinda has a Perdition City vibe, and a bit of a different feeling than the rest of the album.

It's a cool song but the latest time I listened it seemed a little cheesy, especially the first lines of lyrics.

I would say the female vocals on this represent the 80s and 90s dance/house music influence

Anyone know how this sounds on a studio monitor set-up?

Do you guys really listen to music through your monitors? I only use them for mixing but other than that I have a 2.1 THX system that I use for bumpin the jams. I have a pair of BX8s, they aren't my favorite but people seem to love them

Really great song, love how prolific they are.

If they stick with this sound for the next few albums I would be quite satisfied. Never liked them until this album.
