The bass is better on this album than Death Magnetic, the production is more tolerable overall with better sounding drums, good tunes, and James is still the best part of Metallica. When you think about it, he IS Metallica.

The songwriting on DM is better imo, but they're both pretty solid.

Not a huge fan of the album as a whole, but I really like the guitar rhythm and that natural harmonic riff with the heavily palm muted chords that lead into the solo in "Am I Savage?". I still have no idea what the hell they were thinking trying to parody Mayhem in that music video for "ManUNkind" though.. wtf

I like the vocal harmonies in songs like Moth and Dream.

Still lots of mediocre moments on the album tho

@deschutes one thing that they ware trying to do with that video was probably to piss people like you off with it

Well if that was the case, then they failed. It didn't piss me off in the slightest, I just don't understand why they did it, lol.

I reckon if they condensed it and opened it with spit it really would of had a much bigger wow first impression: and generally be higher regarded over all. id like this track listing

1. Spit out the bone

2. Atlas rise

3. Now that we're Dead

4. Moth into flame

5. Hardwired

6. Confusion

7. Dream No More

8. ManUnkind

9. Here Comes Revenge

10. Halo On Fire

Am I savage and murder one are the two weakest for me

Halo on fire finished disc 1 real good so I figure it could finish off the whole album

biggest problem with the album is how bloated it is. Could lose Am I Savage, Here Comes Revenge, and Murder One and nothing would be lost imo.

Halo On Fire had me so pumped for the second disc that I was initially let down with disc 2 as a whole, but the album's a grower for sure

Am I Savage is one of my favorite tracks on the record. Yeah it's not serious thrash, but if you go into a new Metallica record expecting some good Thrash, then you're a fool.

I don't mind Savage, but I think it's just comparatively weaker than the rest of the album

I can't believe some people still complain about it tbh
