First half of the new one is incredible. I say ‘first half’ because my brain imploded by the time I hit 40-45 mins. I’m sure it’s all great.

The well is as deep as your mind wants it to go. The closer you listen to it the more seems to be going on. Yea it's an illusion, but it's interesting what the mind can do when listening to stuff this complex

the new one is complex nearly to a fault yea

I might just spend the next year of my life attempting to digest the new album... probably worth it. Shit is bonkers in all the most satisfying ways. Review when?

these guys clearly set out to make a genre benchmark and succeeded 100%. future tech death albums will be compared against this one for a long time

New one's a technical showoff but songwriting is boring tbh, every track follows a pretty similar harmonic/melodic pattern & structure
Aaand hello page break

yeah totally predictable album i saw all 220 riffs and 100 solos coming the flamenco and swing breaks too. really pedestrian songwriting that's been done before 100x
who hasn't made a 19 minute tech death song as this point??

Packing more riffs and solos per minute than any other band, throwing in bass slaps and flamenco etc.: there's no denying it's all very stunning. Point is that by contrast, the way they develop themes, movements, melodies, structure songs doesn't feel as adventurous or interesting at all. Sounds rather underdeveloped and generic, not much there to set them apart from their Canadian predecessors/peers such as Unhuman, Beyond Creation, Brought by Pain etc. New Deviant Process and Archspire have the edge over new FF in that respect, imho.
There's the cake and there's the icing. Seems to me the icing in new FF is so heavy the cake is imploding.
Oh and track length is a criterium of quality in tech death now?
That being said, I will give them a few more listens.
