I don't mind compression as "effect" here and there, but it gets a little annoying when applied all the time. Has a lot to do with aesthetics I guess, but doing the volume/dynamic mixing more by yourself usually brings more suitable and detailed results without sacrificing the aimed "vibe" necessarily.
