It's a weird mashup of depression and some other, more hopeful emotion
some people seem to like it more than Somewhere tho so give it a try
Man, I wish the untitled 7'' were longer, that was like their best sound ever

i don't really like the wave bands anymore, they all make an impact initially but over time i realize they're sorta meh. but at least jordan can write songs, so i should try again with this.

most of the wave bands have worn off on me but I still have mad love for LD and PBTT

"yeee but this is a lot more subdued."
Yeah that's why I like it better. It's also a lot more varied than Somewhere... I find.

Indeed.

waves bands don't even sound the same
duh
|
| |
yeah they do anarchist. it's really all about how they create music in support of their vox/lyrics. i mean they don't sound exactly alike but they definitely share a certain common approach.
|
| |
i mean listen to to the lack long after and if you can't hear defeater in them then you've never heard defeater.

he has a point, the bands are put into the category because of the approach/vox. I for one find every band part of 'the
wave' awesome, I like how each one writes diverse music with awesome lyrics. I personally find a lot of this sites more
elitist skramz is really samey and boring to me, I mean I like some it but the waves bands each have something really
unique about them. I for one love La Dispute's sound and approach, I also love Defeater a lot and I like Pianos Become the
Teeth and Touche as well.

they're really just the newest iteration of semi-popular post-hardcore music, and i'm not going to argue about which genres they are or aren't a part of. idk, the sf scene (loma, punch, beau navire) is definitely better imo.

yeah they do have similarities and influence each other, but they still stand in different genres. although they all do fit somewhat under the large 'hardcore' umbrella
I have 6 'wave' albums rated and they're all at 3 or 3.5. Not sure if coincidence or not

I heard Loma Prieta's new one in full on youtube, some of what they did on it is fucking outstanding but imo there wasn't much variety at all and I kinda felt like some songs were just there to be there but idk. I also really think that lyrically some of the wave bands are outstanding despite what some people on this site think. I haven't heard punch or beau navire though

lol genres. its not a matter of genre or style, they're connected by a shared audience, work ethic, and commitment to emotional hardcore music. regardless of genre, that's why they're considered part of a scene without any of them being from the same city or playing the same style.

What I love so much about these bands are their lyrics and melodies. For example I actually love Dreyer's style and clever metaphors, just as much as I love Defeater's smart and compelling sense of story telling through their songs.
