I wonder what that line is supposed to actually mean. =/

Probably nothing; I have little faith in Vernon's lyrical themes, if they even exist. But I don't feel like one should listen to Bon Iver for cogent lyrical concepts :P It would make his music better, but at the same time it feels a little futile.

Bon Iver and reading John Green is a great combination though

Yeah but even when he wrote that line; did he sit down and say "Yeah, that'll do."

I always pictured him writing his lyrics on the fly, muttering words that sound half-decent together over the already constructed songs

Sounds about right to me. =P
That's what I got from almost every track on this new album.

why i prefer for emma. yeah he's always been vague but i feel like the themes/moods were much clearer defined there than here

What Vernon said about his lyrics was really interesting in the most recent Pitchfork interview. "With this new record, I attempted to build odd landscapes that you could exist in that had weird feelings but also cool-sounding words. That said, I worked harder than ever on these new lyrics. You can really fuck up by not caring about your words. You can't just say, 'As long as it sounds good, it'll be cool.' I really wanted to go deep-- I went as far as writing-out words on the page and making sure they looked good, reading-wise."

There's no bite and I don't hear much beauty, either lyrical or musical. I'm so bored by this record I can only swallow it in halves or thirds. Give me some Arab Strap..
