I'd rather they focused their efforts into a new album rather than EPs.

After over a year, I still think that this is way better than The Great Misdirect. That album was a mess in my eyes, and to me this is up there with Alaska.

I can't even get through the entirety of Colors without switching to something else.

I agree with the first part of your comment, Oscillat0r, but couldn't disagree more with your opinions on Colors. I'm not a fan of the metalcore influence, but that album rules.

I personally love the whole EP, I also have it as a T-Shirt. The art is gorgeous, the lyrics are pretty hard to understand, but I do have had similar experiences with my mind. I think the music is very whimsical and technic over the melody, but it's alright. The album isn't very forgiving towards the listener, IMO.

This album has some awesome moments, and some that I kinda phase out to

The band's best moments these days are the most progressive ones. Their metalcore side has felt tired and sloppily done ever since Alaska.

I agree. They don't mix the two very well.

Not at allll.

Fossil Genera (most obvious example):

Quirky progressive part
Progressive part expanded upon
BAM BAM METAL OUTTA NOWHERE

And here it's better but it's still not ideal - take a look at Lunar Wilderness. The way that they introduce Tommy's vocals into the song is lovely, but what the hell happens about 40 seconds after that? It descends into mayhem unnecessarily, and it just isn't fun to listen to anymore for this guy. :[
