Last two songs are the business

When its so mediocre in the first place, yeah all those things make it easy to forget about them.
I grew to hate clean singing and breakdowns in this style. Its not like i just hate them beceause of their religion or fans. I still like Zao. Probably the only "christian" band from this scene I can think of that I like.

But there's not much mediocre about Underoath. I mean, yeah I think Aaron's voice was annoying sometimes, but he's not even in the band anymore.
And we been over this man, you can't call anything mediocre and then go on and say you like Zao.

I'm Content With Losing is the best song on TOCs, real talk.

Zao has fucking riffs that slay. Underoath does not.

a perfect example of how their preachy religious lyricism might turn some listeners off

"and if you want you can always sing it in a sarcastic way."
Love this song but catch myself doing this often.

What's the best song on this record?

well actually people might complain then as well. the point is that there are points of
underoath songs that sound as if they're trying to force their religious stances down your throat
through their music. I dont necessarily feel that way i'm simply saying i can see where people
might.
also, how would singing it sarcastically do anything positive whatsoever? then you'll just piss off
the people who don't appreciate other people making a mockery of their beliefs.
there is an obvious balance of subtlety that can be reached, and this album does a far better job of
that than TOCS did.
edit: i misunderstood your sarcasm comment so yeah. but i mean the point is still semi-valid so
w/e.

I don't understand how people feel like bands with Christian faith are trying to shove their faith down the listeners' throats. Getting upset at a band with Christians in it for singing about Jesus is like getting upset at metal bands for using distortion or instrumental bands for not singing. They're not asking you to believe in God, they're just singing about it. If they were a band that worshiped cheesecake and you didn't like cheesecake, get over it. The Cheesecake Brothers like cheesecake and Underoath likes God. You can choose to "shove it down" your own throat, but that's the listeners prerogative, not the band's.

Yeah man, gracefulness and forgiveness are such awful themes to preach.
I WANT TO HATE PEOPLE FOR BELIEVING IN THINGS THAT I DON'T

Hey ungraceful, I will love you.
What a forceful Christian theme.
Maybe their first album, nothing after that.
Referencing your religion cannot be construed as forcing it down others' throats in any way shape or form.

And seriously, you clearly didn't pay much attention to TOCS if you think it's a preachy album, because it's pretty much about being depressed except the last song.

Like I said
Leave your baggage at the back door
I'm leaving you the way I think it should be
We're always pulling into spaces that we can't back out of
Starting fights we can't talk our way out of them
How does it feel to be on the recieving end of this one?
I'm half way there and it's all on me
This is what I get for wanting more, for wanting more
This is the way its got to be
Dancing on all these changes
So I walk around with this rope in my hand
So I'll tie it around and around, and around
I'll tie me down
I'll fantasize of being manic
And leaving us behind
In your eyes you were the one that tried
Acceptance is what holds us here
And you my dear are the one I fear tonight
We'll try just one more time
This is the moment that we all live for
Are you ready? Are you ready?
I'm half way there and it's all on me
This is what I get for wanting more, for wanting more
This is the way its got to be
Dancing on all these changes
So I walk around with this rope in my hand
So I'll tie it around and around and around
I'll tie me down
ugh such preachy Christian lyrics

I thought you'd come back
So I prayed
The romance has been dead for years
The romance is dead! The romance is dead! Won't you come back?
So I prayed
Relief, support never came
Memories carry me to the days of when we were kids
And angels came and watched us play
Close my eyes just for tonight
The sun still sleeps and when she awakes
A movie that plays in my mind
Remembering you helps me survive
Every day a re-run of the next
I promised to stay by your side
But that all would change
I can't complain, another victim of the game
Close my eyes just for tonight
The sun still sleeps and when she wakes
Maybe love will find us again
For there is always tomorrow
Sincerely till the end my friend
Close my eyes just for tonight
The sun still sleeps and when she wakes
I guess these lyrics are pretty preachy, Aaron says he prayed!

Yeah, that was uncomfortable even for me. But even as so, the listener is the person who gets to decide if they want to be receptive to the music's message or simply just enjoy the music for what it is. Either way, the listener is presented with a choice and nothing is actually forced upon anybody. I can listen to a song that says "have lots of sex with animals" but if I'm not receptive to the message, it's not going to feel pressured upon me.
