"I don't see how Trivium doing a piss-poor imitation of Maiden here isn't a pile of puke too."
I would have never, ever, EVER thought to compare this to Maiden. What???????
Anyways, had to jam this after the bumps this morning. FUCK Down From The Sky is too damn good. Might be my favorite Trivium song point blank.

Perhaps this refers to the Maiden cover on the special edition? Haven't heard that.
Otherwise, dumb comment.

Just like the crusade was a crappy attempt at copying metallica style thrash, this was trivium's shitty attempt at the nwobhm sound. If you can't hear the cheaper versions of the harmonies the classic bands like Maiden used in their songs, that's your problem, not mine, bud.
Still a metalcore album though - it's got breakdowns after all

After listeming to a bit of both again after years of not hearing them, I feel more like what they did on Shogun was switch the bad Metallica worship to bad Megadeth worship.

See, The Crusade is rightfully called out for being Metallica worship, because it literally sounds like it could be a Metallica record. I see what you're saying about incorporating some nwobhm harmonies, but considering the actual genre they're playing and placing them into here is pretty far removed from that, I'd have an incredibly hard time labeling it as imitation. Especially considering it's not like that's the only thing going on in the entire record, again, unlike The Crusade. Just some influence sprinkled in

You hear a Maiden-like harmony in a metal song and so the song is an imitation of Maiden? Or you hear Maiden-like harmonies in several songs on a metal album so the whole album is an "attempt at the nwobhm sound"?
Pretty reductive arguments, that don't say anything about the songwriting. But hey, this is Sputnik.
For me it's Ascendancy that sounds most like Metallica.

The chord progressions are pretty nwohbm-esque too. Yes, DBA, I can hear some "Megadeth" leads, but they aren't very pervasive on the record. Heafy can't sing for shit tho

Crusade is metallica imitation for sure. This was their peak of creativity.

I’d love to hear the Maiden tracks that Trivium ripped off to write Kirisute Gomen
