It's so hard for me to find time for this monster. I have done one full listen, though.

First time a Swans album has really scared me. Some of the tape loops are beyond freaky.

Swans discog complete!

I'm going to give this a go today. I've been meaning to give these guys a proper listen for a while now. Is this a good place to start?

I'd suggest either this or The Seer. They're both huge, sprawling albums, but they carry a lot of different bits and pieces of nearly all Swans albums. I feel with the latter it brings it to a very cohesive whole, while here (which is a strength) the amount of surprises and left-field transitions makes it pretty indescribable.

Children Of God is anything but straight forward for me but still my favorite Swans so far.

it's not exactly straight forward but it is more accessible than most of their other albums.

Cool. I'll try Children of God and move to the Great Annihilator, semi-chronological I guess. Soundtracks seems like it'll will take a long time to sink in.

well it does take a long time to sink in but there are also things about it that are very immediate. Helpless Child'll blow your mind on the first listen.

Nice. I've heard that title mentioned a few times. I'm going to check that out.

I'm going to have to make a Swans list. There is a lot of music to take in. CoG, Annihilator and this seems like a good start. Thanks for recs!

What about Gira's other project The Angels of Light. Is that worth a listen?

Yes, especially the first two albums are a must if you like Gira. Also listen to Drainland (solo album), with beautiful gems such as "You See Through Me" and "Blind".
