I think you have scared away all the queer little 12 year old trivium fan-boys with this awesome review. They all melted at the mere site of it. YEEEEEEEEES!

Ewwwww, you picked To The Rats as one of the highlights? I can't stand that song particularly...especially the chorus.

"Break every bone in your face, if you mess with my life!"

...it's so bad that it's funny.

That line from To The Rats reminds me of Dane Cook.

It had a fine riff, though.

But what does that prove? If anything?

Thank god sputnik still has some credibility. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, I love Ascendancy, but this album sucks. But if you look outside sputnik, the general outlook is that it's a great album? I don't think those people have actually given this a listen! If you like this and can back your opinion up, good for you, but I'm glad to see that the response here was negative.

I'm glad to hear that. I don't mean I insist on all opinions of this album being negative, but I'm glad some people can see things how I (or we) have seen them, despite the overwhelmingly positive views of the masses.

I gave this album a 3 while I was listening to it on my computer. But I went out and bought it today and I must say it quickly went to 3.5 (cranking a metal album in your vehicle certainly changes everything). Being a fan of metal (all types new and old), I would have to say there some songs on here that are pure thrash and some that just reak of commercialism. Overall, a solid effort and I really dont see why these guys get a bad rep because the media hypes them so damn much. Ignore all that and just listen to music for what it is.

ShadowsFallen: I just went back and read what you said on page 3 about my previous comment. Thank you for the positive feedback on my opinion. I think you and a few others in this metal community here at sputnik are true metal heads because of your respect to other peoples opinions. Thats what metal is all about, thought provoking music that challenges people to think.

Every time somebody tells me to listen to music for what it is, I feel very violent and just want to punch somebody.

I was disproving (a little) a point Shattered was trying to make.

Shattered_Future said that Trivium were the only band on RR to get spotlight, and Mudvaynian was pointing out that KsE is also on that label and get plently of attention.

Trivium definetly has the spotlight for RR right now (and Dean! go to deanguitars.com), but I'd say at various times RR promotes different bands to the same extent.

Ok so I DESPISE metalcore, especially bands like Trivium, so it's really uncomfortable for me to say this... but at least they did what they did quite well (even if I hate it).

But this is just disgraceful. It's truly sad that this band ACTUALLY think they have anything to do with 80s thrash, or are anywhere near as good as Metallica (at least thier first few albums).

"Their third album is a buffet of 80’s thrash (influenced – note that the music is far from real thrash) riffs raped with America’s metalcore plague" - You hit the nail right on the head there.

Awesome review.

Speaking of ripping off Metallica - a friend of mine claims that one of Anthem's riffs is ripped from Until it Sleeps and just speeded up. Is this correct?

It could very well be, but I couldn't justify it. I have a rather odd relationship with Metallica.

Great review. I havent been looking forward to hearing this album ever since I heard Detonation.

WHen I talked to Paolo, he kind of actually make me look forward to the title track.

I jokingly recommended they record a 10 minutes of shredding wankery. hes like "We did, Its called the crusade"

haha. I very much doubt it will be good now.

Wow, that's unfortunate. You suggested they record a mass of wankery and they were one step ahead of you.

Paolo seems like an okay guy but Matt Heafy seems incredible arrogant. The band definitely puts me off.
