One man's 'Inconsistent ratings' is another's 'not sticking to accepted models of taste'

Production here is the equivalent of putting a muzzle on a fighting dog -Iggy sounds soooo polite

My least favourite song on 'Low' is 'What in the World', same issue - this is like a whole album of that

Punk songs delivered as polite pop patter

Songwriting doesn't all hit the spot for me either - obviously Lust for Life and Passenger are classics, Some Weird Sin is fun too

Nah I just don't understand your ratings. They are so over the place even when the albums are pretty similar. Like giving Dear Science a 4.5 and Return to Cookie Mountain a 3. Doesn't make any sense to me (that's quite a rating gap), but whatever. That's just one example, and maybe not the best one.

But that's genuine - Cookie was my introduction to the band and I've got to be honest it didn't impress me. Overall a bit muddy and with songs like 'Let the Devil In' and 'Wash the Day' bore me to tears. 'Science' is totally different, brings the funk, everything is clear and distinct, there's a Talking Heads influence, the only song I don't like is the Cookie alike 'stork and owl'.

When I was younger maybe I felt I either liked or disliked an artist - that I owed them some sort of loyalty. Nonsense. You can love one album and find another less impressive.

I do think for the majority of the site good starts at 3.5 or a 4 because of that loyalty factor - you don't want to harm an album's average so you up the scores by .5 or even a full point - I don't do that. If I award something a 3 it's pretty decent, I enjoy it.

My favourite ratings on the site are that Rovert dude - hilarious. Always 5's and 1's stuff from the same band

Yeah LPFTW, most people prefer Cookie to Science so I respect that's not an uncommon opinion...but I listen to Red Dress and it's just classic

I love the song, but he didn't write it - Bowie and Warren Peace (who was a songwriting partner during this period) did.

prob edges out the idiot for his best solo album imo, every bit as strong (although not stylistically the same) as the stooges' old stuff
