One of the things that dragged me into this band was the emotional gentleness of tracks like From the sky from Palimpest had. Also a lot of the actual real world history that record brought in lyrically

I've listened to this enough that I think this is going to settle in as my least favorite LP of theirs. Still right around a 4.0 tho

S'alright. On the weaker side of their stuff. I used to not like these guys at all. I can appreciate their excellent musicianship and they have some pretty interesting song structures but overall the band just doesn't do all that much for me.

Last good album for me was Volition. Maybe its just my musical tastes changing, but I'm just not a fan of the chaotic nature of their style where everything is firing on all cylinders all at once. Its hard for me to really focus on everything thats going on. Doesnt help that these last two albums in particular, I've really disliked the vocals. He got a style now that reminds me of James Labrie but not in a good way.

The chaos is kind cool but it very rarely gets anywhere near hitting me in the feels. Vocals are kinda the same, cool, interesting, technically impressive, but rarely genuinely emotional. More overly theatrical, too try-hard.

The dispute regarding the cheese in metal music is so overdone and tired at this point it's not even funny.

It's about damn time every metal fan should realize that all metal music is cheesy anyway, including all those evil sounding "trve cvlt" stuff, and thus admit music is better with cheese.
