I've been too scared to listen to it cause 6 years of expectations will probably make this feel like a disappointment regardless of whether it is good or not. I will try to brave it at some point today.

Hmmmmm, I've only heard Block of Flats and I didn't hate it. Unless the rest is orders of magnitude worse

Album is literally dripping with cool guitar work and sick bass lines. I Let It In is more paint by numbers Deftones worship than this.

Maybe it was just cuz i was drunk out of my mind last night but i found this to be pretty incredible (while admittedly extremely compressed).

This is actually growing pretty hard. I figured it would. Like I didn’t like it but there’s something that keeps drawing me back to it and each time it sounds better. And I swear The Ladder has to be amongst their best songs. I know everyone is hating that one in particular though

Hmmm, everyone's giving a rating for this album on different sites. I still have no idea what to think! On one hand, I really respect the daring, adventurous decisions taken here. The production is unusual and interesting, the genre blending is uncommon, the songwriting is still challenging, and the music itself is thoughtful and entertaining. Overall, I think Loathe is a rare band who sound just as special soft as heavy - and that's kind of the sore point for me.

I don't think the heavier songs or moments are anything special compared to the heavier material on ILIIAITE. I understand writing and incorporating compelling and unpredictable heavier sections to this album was most-likely not a priority, but I think Loathe has/had a very unique and rather extreme style of heavy music songwriting which has been inadvertently (or deliberately) diluted on this album. As much as I welcome the new ground the band is covering on here, there's a part of me mourning the loss of the more extreme edge of the band's sound. I’m concerned I might WANT to like this more than I actually do.

“Nah your pea brain just didn't get it”

Yep. Chemical engineering pea brain. It’s funny that’s all the people can say in rebuttals to any critique of that album. They can’t even pinpoint a single movement or moment or song because deep down they know nothing memorable nor exciting exists anywhere on Inferno

Father and Son has some of my favorite use of samples in recent memory off the top of my head. I think Boards of Canada albums are best experienced as a whole though rather than isolating the individual tracks (although they have plenty of bangers)

I'm on track 11 and nothing about this sounds remotely like Deftones to me. Some tracks are kind of generic, including the one I'm on rn, although the airy chorus is alright. Some sound genuinely great tho. Harder to Pretend is an early highlight.

Dude... YES. God-tier sampling. I already know Spotify is going to tell me it's my most played song of the year when I get my report card in Dec.

I said it in the other thread but I’m so glad these guys didn’t just try to make I Let it In Part 2 and went in a pretty radically different direction. Review mentioned that some of the heavier moments are the weakest on the album… ya Revenant fucking blows and it had me really worried about the record. Tbh the whole middle stretch save Athena and The Way it Breaks could’ve been cut down. The opening stretch of tracks and the closing 4 really save this album.

But again, I applaud these guys for trying something different. In that sense it kinda reminds me of Life is But a Dream… just didn’t all come together quite as well as I’d have hoped.

Ah well, I’m enjoying it and will definitely be giving it some more listens.

Not to hi-jack the thread, but I love how BoC manage to make the samples feel like they've blended into the track. Given the amount of time between their albums, its amazing they can still make songs like that at such a high level.

Yeah I agree, it’s a masterclass in rhythm. It’s kinda subtle at first too, something I didn’t even really notice until after hearing Inferno a couple-few times
