I have way too much sentimental history associated with Underoath personally, but I'd take this over big bands like Silverstein or Saosin (post AG) for example

“Would absolutely argue Substructure is better in quality though not in the same genre of whatever this is trying to be.”
okay it’s so funny that you’re riding this hard for a slightly less shitty Rings of Saturn in a completely unrelated thread. Literally just listen to Genghis Tron. I promise it’ll make you forget about a dumb EP from 15 years ago
And I just didn’t grow up with UO… I have zero nostalgia or anything for them. I’m not saying that you guys only like it because of that… but my thing is why listen to the ‘06 model that’s putting out dogshit now when I can listen to the ‘26 model that’s shitting gold right now

Also absolutely Underoath’s Define the Great Line and Lost In the Sound of Separation edge Static Dress’s stuff for being more consistent and harder hitting. But only like a bit. Their stuff is now with two modern classics compared to those just mentioned. And I’m saying that as a dude who lived that ‘04 era.

"why listen to the ‘06 model that’s putting out dogshit now when I can listen to the ‘26 model that’s shitting gold right now"
I just listen to both. It's the whole "standing on the shoulders of giants" thing, this band wouldn't exist without TOCS/DTGL. These guys have the potential (you might argue they've already achieved it) to become that band for the future.
And I don't dispute that there's a healthy dose of nostalgia, but if a band dropped Define the Great Line today it'd be a nuke.

Come on, that’s a hit below the belt.

It's not impossible but kinda hard to believe since they're still a big band and touring constantly. We are 20 years removed from their heyday however.
It's like kids thinking As Daylight Dies is "oldschool metalcore". You don't know what you don't know
