This is the best they’ve sounded in a decade. Kinda surprised by the muffled reception

Wouldn't be that radical but it's maybe my fourth to fifth favorite Shikari album now, all the choruses work so well (yeah even it's ok)

I was thinking 2nd favorite behind Mindsweep but honestly I think it’s even better than that especially the last 3

Dead in the Water is an all time ES song I hope they play it live

I think about half of this is good/great but there’s some rough areas. It’s growing on me a bit.

AFFOC through to Nothing Is True is their peak era though. Might just be nostalgia but there's something special about those albums, even The Spark... despite its flaws.

The Spark is nearly terrible. It has a few strong moments I guess but it only feels like a piece of an album and it and AKFTWW don’t even feel like full albums. Everything leading up to and including The Mindsweep is good. And Nothing Is True felt like a good comeback. Then they went back to crap. Then came back as strong as ever here. I had no clue this was even coming out, tbh, but glad to be surprised. It’s just weird to me that this has had just as poor if not worse reception than AKFTWW. That wasn’t even a complete album lmao. And probably their worst album

The last 3 songs here alone are stronger than The Spark and AKFTWW and the other songs are as enjoyable and catchy as anything else on any of their other albums. Sure it may lack much post hardcore but pretty much everything since AFFOC has had less emphasis on post-hardcore. Tracks 1-6 are very solid and quite possibly their longest run of proper songs that don’t fall into some sort of weird wankery. And then the final 4 are their strongest set of songs. Only low spot here is “It’s Ok”. And it’s okay lol

Oh, baby, when you talk like that
You make a woman go mad
So be wise (sí) and keep on (sí)
Reading the signs of my body (uno, dos, tres, cuatro)
I'm on tonight
You know my hips don't lie (no fighting)
And I'm starting to feel it's right
All the attraction, the tension
Don't you see, baby, this is perfection?

I really didn't like The Spark upon release, but coming back to it today, I feel like it still has that Shakira magic.

I can't put my finger on it, but it hits a bit deeper than their past two albums. They had this "spark" that has fizzled out a little.

This is still a killer album though but it doesn't feel quite as special their 2010-2020 run.

"that Shakira magic" lmao

You'll never catch me slandering The Spark nowadays, but I admit it didn't sit as well with me when it first came out.

I finally checked this band out a few months ago and The Mindsweep really stuck with me and is the only album I really know at this point. In my world where only these 2 albums exist, this is a really good follow up to The Mindsweep.

Find out the Hard Way is a great song and I can't get it out of my head

If you like those two albums, definitely give A Flash Flood of Colour a go. That and The Mindsweep are my two favourites by these guys.

Got around to spinning this and it grabbed me on the first listen, something I haven't been able to say since The Mindsweep.
Just when the songs start to sound a bit repetitive, a nice guitar riff or bouncy synth line bursts forth with some tasty drumming for good measure- they sound more inspired than they have on the last couple.
It's a consistent listen from start to finish, hoping they come out to Canada this year as I'd like to catch some of these songs live.
