No, it's not fine. Unless I'm not on board because Dave keeps throwing me off the deck before tossing me a life raft to do it again.

I got on the deck for a minute and then jumped to my death after hearing this tbh.

"He sounds his age pretty much, but what do people want? "
Lots of singers his age sound okay, heck Robin Halford sounds great still. I want vocals that don't suck dick doof bro. That's usually preferable to the alternative

It can be tough to abandon loyalty to a band but if you've not enjoyed their last, say, five albums...then why keep going?
This is so much like a slightly refined 'Th1rt3en' and it's about par in terms of quality compared to the last five albums.

'I want vocals that don't suck dick doof bro.'
KILL, that sounds like you'd have to replace Dave...I think this is the best performance he can give now pre much.

Yea doof i'm not saying I expected any better, they just stand out a lot on this record. I don't think it helps they're so prominent in the mix. With those vocals you want to hide the rough edges, lower in the mix, more verb..smart and subtle vocal affects etc

Telling Mustaine to bury his vocals lower in the mix would probably require him to have a personality transplant.

I guess I hoped for a little self awareness development with age! More fool me eh

I liked United Abominations, Endgame, and Dystopia. Not my fault he kept throwing in sleepy time boring albums and some career lows in the mix.

> It has the typical dry and overproduced modern trash sound which I loathe.
It’s the sin of most modern thrash, bu especially legacy bands. The new stuff always sounds soulless and stale. I can’t blame them though, recording, mixing and producing must be so much easier these days. It almost makes it seem like the sound of classic thrash records were unintentional result of limitations of the time, rather than a deliberate desire to achieve that feel.

Also I keep thinking of the resume line from this review. Megadeth certainly has a resume, but if it's one of the best in metal then surely every metal band qualifies, yeah?

@Doodoof His age is not really an excuse. James is about the same age and he actually sounded very good on their latest record imo. He was easily the highlight, it was just everything around him that was boring as fuck. Here it just sounds like Dave isn't even trying.

I thought Judas Priest's last two show that age is never an excuse?
|

Dave is clearly unwell and his years of addiction have caught up to him big time. I mean James liked his coke n booze but Mustaine was a fucking junkie for aeons

True, but Halford is a legendary vocalist and kinda unfair to compare with if you're Mustaine lol

If Iron Maiden didn't make Sleepjutsu I would also point to Book of Souls as age not being an excuse.
