I'm Australian and yeah... it is eerily reminiscent of those country festivals I used to attend quite regularly. But reaction here hasn't been much better to the rest of the world tbh.

@caliggy

Start listening to some house and Berlin minimal techno cause that's what he is trying to copy and doing a very very amateur job of.

there's one very good thing about this album - makes his earlier work sound even better, I'm enjoying the first 3 albums more than ever haha

I will say half of the Currents album and two thirds of the previous one to this are about as equally shit, just with the sort of big production that lets the dreck wash over you.

Completely agree, it’s steep downhill since Lonerism.

For me, this is the PERFECT blend of indie rock and electronic music; I can't think of another album that does it better. The addictive melodies and vocal hooks satisfy my indie urge, and there are heaps of exhilarating moments that hit my electronic hunger.

This is the biggest surprise I've had in years (given the generally poor reception its had and my massively low expectations). Up there with Djrum for album of the year at the moment.

Slow Rush is his Magnum Opus, with Currents a close second.

Tame impala albums get progressively worse first being the best and last one worst. Very simple.

Innerspeaker is best. This is by far his worst

I’m in agreement that every album gets progressively worse since innerspeaker

I used to think Innerspeaker was their best but my dance-centric brain loves Currents more these days. I'm also very happy I got to see them while they were touring for Lonerism cuz the show was unreal

I saw them shortly after currents came out and the show was amazing. Top 5 I’ve seen. Killer mix of mostly currents and lonerism with a few innerspeaker tracks as well. Those currents tunes hit live

Never been the biggest fan until now really, but have really enjoyed the last 4 albums. Innerspeaker was okay, but didn't really do much for me.

Deadbeat > Lonerism > Currents > The Slow Rush > Innerspeaker

Also team Innerspeaker.
Lonerism is just a lesser version of the same record in my book, similarly to Slow Rush vs. Currents.

Inner > Currents >= Lonerism > Slow Rush >>> Deadbeat
