i don't really agree that the two songs they "dropped" are better than anything on halo. they were among the weakest tracks. i feel the same about the bonus tracks on queen of time too.

i think you're attributing to jens and the art direction what really comes down to the fact they just happened to write better songs on this album. the worst song on here is as good as anything on halo and that's the band's responsibility ultimately. it's a more engaging set of tracks, pure and simple. call it a new leash of life for the band or just things falling together nicely but genuinely i think if jens were still the producer this album would have still been better than halo was.

i don't mean to patronise because i realize a lot of this is lost on pure listeners but there's so many mechanics that go into decisions and circumstances like this which is why i feel it's reductive to assign faults like this to one individual (again, that the band chose, the band agreed on, the band dictated his involvement, etc.)

I found Halo pretty dull aside from The Moon and the title track. Agree it was more of a songwriting problem than a production one. This on the other hand is great all-round (as is Queen of Time)

i agree yeah. halo just felt like the band were running on vapours - a few great tracks (agree about the moon and title track, i like the last two songs too) but they just weren't on their a-game.

here they're 100% back.
